MY FIRST LOVE WAS ARTS AND CRAFTS. I STARTED MAKING CANDLES AT 9 YEARS OLD, MOVING ON TO DRAWING MY OWN PAPER DOLLS AND CLOTHES THE SAME YEAR. AT 14, MY DAD BOUGHT ME A SEWING MACHINE. I SPENT A LOT OF HIGH SCHOOL IN MY BEDROOM, WHICH I HAD CONVERTED INTO A SEWING STUDIO. I loved quilting back then.... I HAVE NOT STOPPED CREATING SINCE...
My art career began as a watercolorist in the 1980s. I was represented by the oldest gallery in Arizona at the time.. Over the next two decades owning an art gallery and raising two sons, i slowly gravitated back to crafts, on to acrylics and beyond. I consider myself a mixed-media artist. Most of my work tends to look like quilts- My first real craft.... My subject matter centers around the pacific northwest and other places I travel, my home, family, friends, and our pup, waffle.
I started melbeck studio in 2007 in arizona and started Transitioning to the Pacific Northwest in 2012. this gave me a new perspective on my art. I still feel a breath of fresh air each and every day... I have traded cactus and desert for trees and water. I find myself thinking of shades of green more than ever!
I sell my work in galleries, juried art shows, and on the melbeck studio online store (new this year). I work with several non-profits using my art to benefit their worthy causes. I am so grateful to do what I love! As always, I am happy to create a special piece of art for your home or office, or as a gift.
